About Me

My photo
I live in the Pacific NW with my husband, our 85 pound black lab and the newest member of our family our adorable little boy! I love to cook, stick my hands in the dirt and grow veggies and flowers, etc., craft for gift giving, repurpose things from my grandmother, find a cozy corner and curl up with a good book, and most of all hang out with my boys and our furry one.

I'm back.....

Upon opening IG today an awful thing popped up on my screen......Dooce was gone.....no details but I'm sure she just gave up on the long hard battle she had fought for years....

I told my friend and we started talking about how we had blogs and we didn't do them anymore.

I couldn't remember the name of mine but no only did she but she also had the link to it so here we are.

I read one of my post that talked about my first cancer check up and I was glad it was there.

So here we are .....

I'm going to start writing again. Not sure who if anyone will see it but this will be a place for me to write and journal and get my thoughts on paper.

4-7-8 Breath

Just breathe.....

It's a mantra I hold deep to my heart. I have never not felt better by taking a deep breathe and just stopping for a moment.

That being said the 4-7-8 technique is amazing.   I do this every morning.   And feel that as a result I am calmer throughout the day and able to handle more things that are in your life's path.  I need to start doing it more consistently a second time each day.

What is the 4-7-8 Breath you say?

Dr. Weil explains it best

Quote

"If there is love, there is hope that one may have real families, real brotherhood, real equanimity, real peace.  If the love within your mind is lost and you see other beings as enemies, then no matter how much knowledge or education or material comfort you have, only suffering and confusion will ensue."

Momma moments with Pickle

So tonight G was working late so I was seating at the table with Pickle while he ate.

I was also going through my new FabFitFun Box (more on that later) and in it was a wireless speaker.  It seemed small and like it might not work so I thought I would try it out........and it is quite the powerful little thing.

So we started listening to whatever was on my phone that came up...

Started with Linkin Park - In the End which thankfully he liked (my little rocker) and then the Cranberries came on with Linger.   Pickle asked who was singing and I told him the Cranberries.  His reply......I like cranberries!   Momma can have some cranberry juice?

Gotta love it......

Kids Menu

This last week we were on vacation at the beach and luckily my time in the kitchen was on vacation as well.  All this being said we ate out most meals.   What I have learned from this is that a "kids menu" is very limited.  Basically it is something fried w/ a side of something fried.   I know that the media is all over fast food chains and giving "healthier" options of kids and it would be nice if all restaurants followed suit.

This is what kids menus' usually have on them
  • Hamburger/Cheeseburger and fries
  • Hot dog/corn dog and fries
  • Grilled cheese and fries
  • Chicken fingers and fries
  • Marconi & Cheese
It would be nice is there were some other options for sides such as fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt, and oh I don't know maybe a vegetable?  Some of the bigger chains do this right - Applebee's is one example.  While they have the same main thing they have a variety of options to order as a side.

Also, can someone please explain to me why places that offer "kids meals" only have soda as a drink option?   And we wonder why kids are obese?   One place we go to has soda period.  Not even a sugary juice that at least I could water down - just soda.   No thank you.

Pickle doesn't eat enough to order off the grown up menu yet but he eats enough that he needs his own thing not just some of mine. I don't want to have to cook every meal for him but I also don't want him thinking that going out to eat means grilled cheese and fries..................
