I live in the Pacific NW with my husband, our 85 pound black lab and the newest member of our family our adorable little boy! I love to cook, stick my hands in the dirt and grow veggies and flowers, etc., craft for gift giving, repurpose things from my grandmother, find a cozy corner and curl up with a good book, and most of all hang out with my boys and our furry one.

Birth-day

Thursday, October 11th and I am hanging out at home around 10:30 am.  The house cleaner is here and I'm doing the final packing on my hospital bag.   And then it happens - my water breaks.  Funny how I had just finished packing my bag and apparently my body thought this was its cue.   I called G and told him to come home and he said he was on his way.   I then went downstairs and told A she was going to have to stop cleaning and go home because my water had broke.   She was great and actually hung out until G was just ready to pull up - I think just in case anything happened.

G got home within 10 minutes and I had called the doctor and let them know I was on my way.   We were at the hospital by around 11.   I had called my parents on the way and told them they could start to come up after lunch as it would We were checked into room 1 at the end of the hall by the operating room.   Made sense since I would be having the baby there.   They asked what time I had eaten breakfast and we decided we would wait until 3 pm to be safe to take J.   Since we would just be hanging out until then G left to get something to eat and to go home and tie up things we hadn't had a chance to do before this point.   The contractions had started but they were manageable and I was hoping they would stay that way for the next 4 hours.   G came back and I decided I needed to go to the bathroom - so they took me off all the monitors and off I went.   Then when I came back to the bed I told G that something didn't feel right.

This is where the fun begins.........you see the umbilical cord had come out.   Very dangerous for J.   The doctor on call was thankfully my doctor and she was in my room in seconds after finding this out.   She was then immediately in bed with me holding the cord back in.  She was also telling the nurses to get two doctors from the clinic to come over NOW.   We were taking him now - had too - no choice at this point.   The next 10 minutes are a little bit of a blur.  My doctor and I were wheeled into the operating room.   Two more doctors showed up to do my surgery and the anesthesiologist.  Felt most sorry for the anesthesiologist as all the pressure was on him to "get me out" so they could take J.   I remember my doctor looking at me and telling me they were going to have to put me completely out.   And I remember the anesthesiologist asking me something about morphine and if I wanted it.  I had read enough to say yes.  I also remember my doctor asking if they had found the baby's heartbeat and saying that she could feel him moving.  And that's all I remember......

Next thing I know I am being wheeled down the hallway.   G comes out into the hallway and has our baby in his arms.   Thankfully we have this all on video on my phone.  I am clearly out of it but happy to finally see him.   G was good enough to take a lot of videos of what went on in that first hour of his life.   I can see him getting weighed and measured and having his first bath.  All moments I wish I would of been there for but it just wasn't in the cards.  So thankful that G was able to be there.  I was wheeled to a completely different part of the hosiptial for recovery.   And I thought I was there for 10 minutes but apparently it was more like 45.  Thankfully after that I was able to go to the room where G, J, and my parents were waiting.

In talking to people after the fact both baby J and I are very lucky that things went the way they did.  Our pediatrician was called when they wheeled us into the surgery to be "on call" in case they needed him.   Most of the doctors have not even taken part in this kind of surgery.  My doctor has done it twice in her years of being a doctor and the anesthesiologist had never been part of one.   So once again just like with my pregnancy I feel very blessed and lucky that things went as smoothly as they did.

And this is where the journey really begins............

That's a wrap

So I will have to say I'm not sure if I'm nesting or just worried about how we will eat once J comes.   Might be a combination.   Might also be the fact that I really haven't cooked like I used to in months.  In any event this is what is in the freezer now.

Some of these have been in there for a while and I talked about them in a previous post found here

2 - Mongolian Beef
2 - Enchilada Casserole
3 - Baked Penne Chicken
3 - Taco Soup
2 - Cheeseburger Loaves
1 - Chicken pasta casserole from Jaci
2 - 1 pound servings of cooked and seasoned ground beef
2 - Pasta Shells
2 - Breakfast bakes
1 dozen - Blueberry muffins

I won't be included the recipes but I will have the links if you want to look at them and some pictures if I remembered to take them.

This is just part of how it all started.....we went to Costco and the store and this is everything that isn't in the fridge

Cheeseburger Boats
These are super easy to make and you would probably have most of it on had except for the evaporated milk.   Its kinda like a meatloaf sandwich.  I froze them separately so it will be two meals for us.  I screwed up making this.   Didn't read the recipe and and threw the hamburger meat in a pan to start to cook it.   Needless to say you don't cook anything.   No worries I had extra ground beef and just continued to cook the meat and now have two separate pounds of cooked ground beef in the freezer as well.  Will be perfect to take out to make tacos.   So two more meals out of a mistake
Just mix everything together

If you are freezing you need to do some wrapping....its in the recipe

Just load everything up

This is the "mistake"  the cooked ground beef - I'm sure there will be a day I'm happy to see this

Mongolian Beef
This will be a crockpot meal and couldn't of been easier.  Just throw everything in a bag and freeze then  take out later thaw and throw in the crockpot.
Toss the meat in cornstarch

Just combine everything and throw it in a freezer bag!

Easy Unstuffed Italian Shells
This recipe calls for the creme cheese product that I believe is going to be hard to find in the future.  So if you are going to make this you might want to do so now.
The second layer

The final layers

Breakfast Bake
Gotta have something for breakfast.  I didn't use peppers or mushrooms and did add some extra cheese on the top at the end.

Taco Soup
There is nothing easier to make then this soup.   Its kinda a dump soup and anyone can make this and its always a crown pleaser

Also we have some bagels and some muffins I made for breakfast as well.  I also hope to make some homemade hot pockets for lunch.  Just need to get to Trader Joe's to get some of their pizza dough.   We will see if I get to this or not.  If I do I will let you know.
a little blurry - not sure why
I also decided to have this on the outside of the freezer so that things don't get forgotten.   Just a simple white board - nothing fancy.

I think we will be set and I know my parents and some friends will bring us some meals as well but its just good to know its all there.   Piece of mind is worth a lot after all.

Nursery

The post is long overdue.   Now that I am on maternity leave I have a little more time on my hands.  And I don't have much energy so post for the blog are a perfect way to spend my time.

Here is J's room.......

The invitation from J's shower - Grandma had it framed

The crib

Waiting for J - before the chair

Some of the blankets.  Grandma made the one on top and Auntie S gave us the cute brown cowboy one

Quote over the crib

Changing table

Love this chair!  It rocks and reclines and is SUPER comfy!

Toy box full of stuffed animals.   Yes he already has 3 sock monkeys - love it.

Closet

Right now we have baskets instead of dresser drawers - so far so good

J's books.  Got so many great ones at the shower.  And how cute is that piggy bank?

Shoes!  Granted none will fit for a while....

Hospital bag in progress

Another shot of the crib

The inspiration piece ordered from Etsy

At this point I think we are ready.   We still need to put the shelves up on the wall over by the changing table and chair but we didn't get to that this weekend.  All in good time.   Once those are up and have things on them I will post pictures.  I have some things I can't wait to have on display in the room.  Some old and some new.......

One week from today I at this time I will be on my way to the hospital.   Hard to believe in some respects but long overdue in others.   I have been so lucky through this pregnancy and I hope I have truly enjoyed every moment.   I can kind of understand why people do this more than once but that won't be me - just grateful to have our one little boy.

Splish Splash

The washer and dryer we had was ok.  Still technically working but on days when I did a lot of laundry something smelled hot - and I think it was the dryer.   Also, it was over 10  years old.  I had them at the Picadilly house and G and I have now been married 10 years and I think I lived at Picadilly for about 2-3  years.    G had a plan that he was just going to go out and buy new ones when I was in the hospital and surprise me when I got home.   Thankfully he figured that was not a good idea.   First of all as mentioned I'm not big on surprises and secondly I need a minute before J gets here to work out how to operate a new W&D.   Needless to say a couple of weeks ago I caved and we bought new ones and they were delivered yesterday!

As we speak I just put in my first load - I decided to start with towels - its an actually setting so I didn't have to figure anything else out.   Yes today is game day but I am home bound.  No more footballs games for me this year probably.   Unless we go undefeated into Civil War then I will find a way to go - after all T&R can always watch J.  I'm sad that I can't go to the game - its a perfect fall day.  But glad G still gets to go.  He is going with our house sitter and friend.   Its a our payback to him for him coming to stay with the furry one our first night in the hospital when J comes.   But I digress.....

Here's the old ones

As you can see they are really in good shape but I can't have them breaking down on me when J is two weeks old and that was something that could of happened.

G did a couple of other things as long as we were updating.  He replaced the outlet and switches so they were white and new and he replaced the shelf.   Can you see how it doesn't go exactly to the ends?   The walls aren't straight (nice) so he got a new shelf and got out his saw and made the adjustments needed so now we have a better shelf along the top.

Here are the new ones.....

LOVE THEM!  The fit perfectly and I redid my shelves above and everything still fits.

I just went and checked and it seems be working - its so quiet I keep thinking that its stopped working......
